Kris earned his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario in 2008 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2009. While articling with an Ontario firm he focused on litigation, including employment matters and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, Superior Court, Landlord and Tenant Board and Labour Relations Board. After relocating to Calgary, Kris was called to the Alberta Bar in 2010.

Before entering law school, Kris earned his Honours Bachelors of Arts (with distinction) in English combined with political science from the University of Western Ontario.
